International Students

Arts and Humanities offers a warm welcome International students. Students from all around the world study our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

The College is aware that International students are a long way from home and we ensure academic and pastoral support is available to help you.  We have an International Support Officer who deals with everyday queries and problems and International Academic Advisers for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students who assist with academic queries.

We also offer additional study skills and English language classes for students who are not native English speakers and we recommend that our students take these classes to enhance their study and improve their grades.

The College also offers two pre-sessional programmes for International and European students. The late summer pre-sessional course is offered in early September and a second pre-sessional course is offered in January for students who intend to study at Swansea University for the second semester during the academic year.  The course is worth 10 credits (3 US credits or 5 ECTS).

Have a look at our country specific pages to find out what our International students think about studying Arts and Humanities at Swansea University.

Swansea University also has excellent support for International students.  Have a look at the International Development Office website for more information. English Language Training Services offer pre-sessional English Language courses and Language support during study. International College Wales Swansea  also offers a wide range of Undergraduate Foundation and 1st Year Degree programmes for international students.

The student union supports active student societies e.g. Erasmus, Japanese, Hong Kong, Scandinavian and many more.

"Where do I start? I loved studying at Swansea and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Completing my undergraduate BA History dissertation felt like a huge achievement and I then decided to take a Master’s in Creative Writing. Finishing with a Distinction was one of my proudest achievements. Throughout my time at Swansea I worked as a freelance journalist for publications, including BBC History, The Observer and others. I also established my own magazine, The Antagonist. I’m now working towards becoming an English tutor and my experience at Swansea has a lot to do with that."

"Studying for an MA in International Relations at Swansea University is an amazing experience and one that I shall never forget. The teaching and non-teaching staff of the Department are the best. As an International student, the staff and students at the department warmly welcomed me, which greatly helped me to settle in. Equally, the University has a well-structured system. You have access to all the information, guidelines and materials you require. I now intend to study a PhD here."

"My degree is fantastic. I have learnt so much about politics and the diverse policy areas in International Relations. The professors are very helpful especially when I need help, as English is not my native language. I have also studied abroad at an American University in Virginia for a semester and I loved it! So far my experience as an international student in IR is self-fulfilling and very interesting and I highly recommend Arts and Humanities at Swansea University as the right place to study this course."

"Studying BA Media and English Literature at Swansea University has been a refreshing change from study in India.  The focus of my degree has been self-development. I have had the freedom to express what I feel and also the opportunity to gain work experience through internships/work placements. I would urge anyone interested in studying Media or English Literature to come here – it’s a great experience and one you can’t miss out on – it’s beautiful."
