Swansea University - Applied Linguistics

Applied Linguistics

Welcome

We offer a number of single and joint honours undergraduate courses in English Language and Linguistics, Communication, and TEFL, and a Masters Level Course in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).

The fact that two of our staff have received the prestigious Distinguished Teaching Award in recent years is testimony to our commitment to teaching quality.

We have a successful distance learning PhD Programme primarily aimed at English Language teachers working abroad who want to retain an academic base in the UK. Full-time PhDs are also accepted.

Our research focusses on corpus linguistics, stylistics, discourse, and vocabulary acquisition and testing.

Undergraduate Enquiries: Dr Cornelia Tschichold
MA TEFL Enquiries: Dr Geoff Hall
PhD Enquiries: Dr Tess Fitzpatrick

As a result of the restructuring of the School of Arts and Humanities, the Department of English and the Department of Applied Linguistics have amalgamated to form the new Department of English Language and Literature. All the courses and services offered by Applied Linguistics will continue as before.

NB: English language courses for non-native speakers are offered by ELTS.
