Dave Lamont graduated in 2006, having completed his undergraduate degree in Media and Communication Studies. He is a chartered marketer and currently the Brand Manager at Henley Business School.
Why did you decide to study at Swansea University?
One of my parents is from Swansea and I’d spent a lot of time in Wales growing up. I was impressed by the location of the University, its facilities and the unique atmosphere on campus.
What did you enjoy most about your course at Swansea?
The course provided a wide range of teaching and learning methods and plenty of opportunities to apply the theory.
What are you doing now career-wise?
I am the Brand Manager at Henley Business School. I am also a Chartered Marketer; I have completed the Professional Diploma in Marketing and am a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
How has Swansea University and your course helped you with your chosen career path?
My time at Swansea opened up a wide range of opportunities – both social and professional. This proved invaluable in helping me to understand myself and the person I wanted to be, career wise and in everyday life. It gave me a stronger focus, more confidence and knowledge and skills that I will always use and refer back to.
What was the best careers advice you were given?
Follow your instinct. Whether it’s in regards to your entire career, a particular job or something within that role.
What advice do you have for current students and new graduates?
Get involved in all walks of University life - student media, sports clubs and societies, the active social life, make great friends with people you live with and those on your course. Look beyond the campus too – there’s so much going on across the City. You’ll never get bored.
What are your plans for the future?
To continue to develop my career and this year I’ll be getting married so busy and exciting times ahead!
What have you done that you are most proud of?
The feeling when you finally graduate and look back at those three years is a hard one to top. I’ve also achieved and enjoyed a lot since my time at University. Becoming a Chartered Marketer is something I’m very proud of.
What are your favourite memories of your university years at Swansea?
My time at Swansea left me with so many happy memories, and it’s a place I continue to return to whenever I can. Memories range from my time writing for and editing the student newspaper, great nights out, visiting beaches on the Gower and grabbing a Joe’s ice cream in Mumbles. The one thing above all else is the great group of friends I made.
Outside of work, what do you enjoy?
Racket sports, football, travelling, photography, food and drink, the arts
