Students will receive a letter from the Admissions Office when they confirm Swansea as their Firm choice, providing a link to the on-line application form.
You will need your 6 digit Swansea University Student Number (e.g. 456789) to apply for accommodation, these are sent out by email from the beginning of May onwards. Places in residence are then allocated once your place at University is confirmed. For most students this will mean that they will receive an offer of accommodation shortly after 'A' level results are published.
To be guaranteed a place in residence for:
Unconditional Offers
Applications received after this time will be processed with Conditional and Insurance Students on a date basis.
Conditional Offers
The later the application is received the fewer rooms will be available.
No student in any category is guaranteed a place in a particular residence or room.
Local student should consider very carefully whether they want and will wish to remain in University accommodation as the financial commitment is for the full academic year. Every year there are a number of local students who change their mind about living away from home and request to be released from their contract part way through. The only circumstances under which a student may be released from the contract is if a suitable replacement can be found for the room; frequently, particularly after the first few weeks of term, this is not possible and the student remains liable for all fees for the full length of the agreement.
Local students who make Swansea their Firm choice of University are guaranteed a place in residence in exactly the same way as other students.
However those who are admitted to the University on Insurance offers or via Clearing and live in the greater Swansea area may be asked to remain at home for the first few weeks of session if there is high demand for places in residence.
Places in residence are not allocated until a student's place at the University is confirmed. Applications are prioritised in the following order of admission category and then by date.
| Unconditional Firm Offer | Not waiting on any additional information or results |
| Conditional Firm Offer | Waiting on results such as 'A' Level results |
| Insurance Student | Swansea is the 2nd choice of University |
| Clearing Student | Student is applying thought UCAS Clearing System |
Within each category accommodation is offered to eligible students using the following criteria:
While most new students will be able to obtain university accommodation certain residences will inevitably be full by the time the later applications are processed.
Residential Services at Swansea ensures that every application receives the best attention. Allocation are made with the aid of a an ‘On-line’ allocation system in order to reduce the time between making an application and receiving your accommodation offer. Students are allocated to a residence site according to their preferences, please ensure that you think these through carefully as they will be allocated on a priority basis. Also put as much information about where you want to live on the form under 'additional information'.
New undergraduate applicants who have applied through UCAS must confirm that they wish to hold Swansea as their Firm offer before an Accommodation Application may be submitted. You will then need to make an application by 30th June (please see guarantee information above).
Students holding Insurance offers will be also be able to apply for accommodation once they have received their student number, and if successful in obtaining a place at Swansea, will be sent information on accommodation once their place has been confirmed.
Students offered a place at Swansea through the UCAS Clearing system will be sent details of how to apply on-line when their admission to the University is confirmed. A certain amount of University accommodation is normally available to students admitted through Clearing, though some Clearing applicants will normally have to live in the private sector, and Clearing students living relatively locally will be asked to remain at home for the first few weeks of session. Residential Services will assist with private sector accommodation arrangements for all first year students who are unable to travel from home and for whom no university accommodation is available, provided an application for accommodation is received at least one week prior to the start of session.
Those who enter via Clearing are sent this information with their formal offer of a place, you will then be able to submit an online application.
The Application for Accommodation for exchange students forms part of the Admission form and should be sent by the Exchange Co-ordinator in Swansea. The two forms must be returned together. A leaflet "Essential Accommodation Information for Exchange Students" will be sent at the same time.
