NEW UNDERGRADUATES

All new undergraduates are eligible for University accommodation in their first year, you will need to:

  • Hold a firm offer on a full time degree course

  • Make an application for accommodation

To be guaranteed a place in residence you must apply by:

  • 30th June 2010

Thereafter home students have no guarantee of University accommodation, though most who wish to are able to return to residence in their final year. Disabled students are normally able to spend three years in residence if they wish.

Any student who accepts the offer of a place in University residence does so on the understanding that the room is offered and accepted for the whole of the academic year and that, other than in exceptional circumstances, it is not possible for a student to be released from his/her contract during the year.

Students are allocated based on our Allocations Policy

WHAT SHOULD I DO AND WHEN TO BE GUARANTEED ACCOMMODATION?

  • I am starting in September 2010 when should I apply?

    • You should apply from 12noon on 4th May 2010 and before 30th June 2010
  • If I apply BY this date will I get my first choice of accommodation?

    • We allocate based on preference in order of application and date of confirmation on course into the university, however we cannot guarantee any particular room in residence for any student.  We do ask that you give us as much information as possible when making your application so that we can allocate accordingly.
  • If I apply AFTER 30th June 2010 can I still get accommodation?

    • You will still be allocated accommodation however depending on your preference you may not get your first few choice of accommodation.

GRADUATE MEDICAL, NURSING & MIDWIFERY

Due to the longer length of these course and different start dates the most suitable accommodation is Hendrefoelan Village or University Managed Properties. Please be advised that accommodation is NOT available at Beck House and Singleton Residences before Friday 24th September 2010.  If you wish to be allocated to these residences then you will need to arrange accommodation prior to these dates yourself.

LOCAL STUDENTS

Local students who make Swansea their Firm choice of University are guaranteed a place in residence in exactly the same way as other students.  However those who are admitted to the University on Insurance offers or via Clearing and live in the greater Swansea area may be asked to remain at home for the first few weeks of session if there is high demand for places in residence.

Local students should consider very carefully whether they want and will wish to remain in University accommodation as the financial commitment is for the full academic year. Every year there are a number of local students who change their mind about living away from home and request to be released from their contract part way through. The only circumstances under which a student may be released from the contract is if a suitable replacement can be found for the room; frequently, particularly after the first few weeks of term, this is not possible and the student remains liable for all fees for the full length of the agreement.

NEW POSTGRADUATES

A room in university residence is guaranteed to new international postgraduates who:

  • Hold a firm offer of a postgraduate place on a full time course
  • Make an application for accommodation and
  • Confirm attendance at Swansea by 30th June.

Following this deadline places will be allocated on a date order basis, on receipt of a reservation deposit until all vacancies are filled. Whilst every attempt will be made to offer the preferred accommodation choice, places are offered on a first come first served basis therefore no guarantee of specific accommodation can be given in advance.
Places are offered for the full academic year of the course which for the majority of postgraduates is 12 months, it is not possible to offer a student on a twelve- month course a nine- month contract even if the taught portion of their course has ended. The only exception to this is at Hendrefoelan Student Village where a 9 month option is available.

UK POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS

As demand from International students is expected to be particularly high for the session 2010/11 we do not expect to be able to offer places in accommodation to UK postgraduate students. To offset this, UK postgraduate students will be eligible to apply for one of the positions of Welfare Warden (13 positions in total) or Senior Welfare Warden (2 positions). The University will offer all other UK postgraduate students assistance in finding suitable private sector accommodation.

Should the situation change once more accurate numbers are available about the new student intake, information will be posted on this website.

PART TIME POSTGRADUATE

Part time students can be considered should rooms be vacant when there are no full-time enrolled students on the waiting list. In this case, other categories will be permitted to move in for the remainder of that session. At the start of the academic year they can only be considered if the level of applications from full time postgraduates does not take up the full quota of rooms.
