Penalties for the Late Submission of Assessed Work

For Students Pursuing Undergraduate Modules:

Colleges must select one of the following options regarding late submission penalties:

  1. Candidates who fail to submit work by the deadline shall be awarded a mark of 0%. Candidates, who are prevented from meeting such deadlines due to extenuating circumstances, may apply to the appropriate College Committee for consideration to be granted an extension or have late penalty waived; or
  2. Candidates who fail to submit work by the deadlines shall have the mark awarded reduced according to the following table:

For each calendar day late Minus 10 marks
More than 7 calendar days late 0% awarded

If you are prevented from meeting such deadlines due to extenuating circumstances you may apply to the appropriate College Committee for consideration.

The Department of Adult Continuing Education operates the following penalties:

Candidates who fail to submit work by the deadline shall have the mark awarded reduced according to the following table:

Lateness Penalty 
Up to one week  Minus 10 marks 
Up to two weeks  Minus 25 marks 
More than two weeks  0% awarded 

For Students Pursuing Taught Postgraduate Modules:

Please note that failure to submit coursework by the deadline shall result in a mark of 0% being awarded.  If you are prevented from meeting such deadlines due to extenuating circumstances, you may apply to the College for an extension.
