Leading academic works on an innovative project
Esboniadur Beirniadaeth a Theori (Explaination, Criticism and Theory) in an online publication that will be the result of a research project in the Department of Welsh, Swansea University. The project is led by Mr. Robert Rhys, Reader in Welsh Literature, and edited by Dr Simon Brooks, Senior Research Officer in the Department.
Dr. Brooks is a prolific academic who has published many books including Pam na fu Cymru, his study of nationalism in Wales. His first book, O dan lygaid y Gestapo (Under the eyes of the Gestapo), is a study of literary criticism in Wales. Dr. Brooks’ next publication is Hanes Cymru (Welsh History), a comprehensive coverage and history of ethnic minorities in the life of Welsh Wales.
Dr Simon Brooks said: "The Esboniadur Beirniadaeth a Theori is an exciting project that is unprecedented in Welsh. We’ve had encyclopedias and theological explanations and bibliographies in Welsh before, but nothing of this sort in criticism and literary theory.
"The Esboniadur will contain definitions of literary forms, along with a discussion on the terms of the world of cultural theory, and also records for different Welsh literary critics.”
A successful two-day workshop was held in Carmarthen to produce records in April and the material will be published on a regular basis during 2016.
